Board Nominations
We are seeking nominations for our Board of Directors (“Elders”). The board consists of six members, with each member serving a three-year term. Terms are staggered with two members completing their term each year. Upon completion of the term, they will be eligible for nomination again after a one-year period. This year, the two current board members who are completing their term are John Sponsler and Daniel Martinez (therefore, both are ineligible for nomination this year). Board members who will remain in service are Gary Correll, Joe Gitto, Dana Mikels, and Isaiah Camp.
How The Process Works
The principal purpose of the Board is to function together as a team to serve the church by providing accountability and performance review for the Lead Pastor and also functioning in specialized oversight roles including financial management, facilities oversight, and the overall mission of the church.
Once a year, church members are invited to nominate people for consideration. Then over the process of a couple months the present board prayerfully discerns who they sense God is calling to serve in these roles. This decision is made on the basis of unanimity. Then, at the annual meeting, the entire slate of proposed board members for the coming year is presented to the church for ratification (carried by a 2/3 majority affirmation).
From the Village Church By-laws:
Section 3 - Nomination, Selection, And Term Of Office
A. Nominations - Recommendations to fill the office of Board Member shall be requested once per year from all church members.
B. Duties of the Board - Upon receiving the list of nominees, the Board shall review all nominations and determine the qualifications of each nominee. The Board shall then determine the nominees to offer to the church membership. At the Annual Meeting, the nominees shall be presented to the members for ratification. If this ratification process carries by a 2/3 majority vote, the newly appointed Board members shall assume office immediately. If, for any reason, the slate does not receive approval of the members present, the Board shall propose a second slate and call for a Special Meeting to conclude this business.
C. Term of Office – The term of service for each Board member shall be three years. Upon completion of the term, they will be eligible for nomination again after a one-year period.
Section 4 – Qualifications
Each member of the Board must be a member of Village Church and live a life that consistently demonstrates faithfulness unto Christ and spiritual maturity as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-11, 1 Timothy 4:12, Titus 1:6-9, and Acts 6:3 & 5.
