Village Missionaries

A Note from Cheryl Mikels, Director of Church Life

MISSIONS

God has called us into an exciting ministry that reaches far beyond ourselves. Through the faithful and generous support of our church body, we are privileged to be co-laborers with 18 missionaries. They are located throughout North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. It is an awesome responsibility that our missionaries have undertaken, however, they are very aware that they cannot do it alone. The “Great Commission” is two-fold: their willingness to go, and our faithfulness to give, pray, and encourage.

Since many of our missionaries are in areas far removed from us, it is easy for us to forget that they are real people, with very real needs and concerns. We miss the importance that communication with them can have for both them and us.

I would encourage you over this next year to send a note of encouragement to each of our missionary families. Perhaps you can “adopt” a different family each month, sending notes of encouragement, as well as praying for them, and reading about what is going on in the country where they serve. Monthly prayer letters from them are available in the Connection Café. Our desire is that the relationships between the missionary and our body will be deepened and our prayer focus will be strengthened.

Village Church is committed to sending people from our body to serve with our missionaries. These short-term trips range from one day to several weeks. The following are some scheduled opportunities for service:

Children's Hunger Fund Come join us in conducting volunteer food packing at the Children's Hunger Fund Distribution Center in Pacoima. Meet at the church at 8AM, we will pack food from 9AM to 12PM and have a fellowship lunch afterward. This is a great opportunity to get involved in service on a small basis. Give a morning of your time, and you will be amazed at how you receive through your giving. Sign up by calling the church office or contacting Andy Rotunno. Reservations are required. Pastor Von Trustzschler with Spectrum Ministries, Tijuana Opportunities to serve at Spectrum include working in the children’s shower and clothes distribution area, food distribution, haircuts for boys, hair brushing/styling for girls, playing games with everyone. Village Church will be committing to Humanitarian Days at Spectrum throughout the year. These dates will be announced in the weekly bulletin
